FLAMING WORD – P11
JUDGES 16:16
“And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death.”
As a Nazarite, Samson was in covenant with God. His strength was linked to his hair, and it was crucial that no enemy discovered this secret. Delilah sought to uncover the source of Samson’s greatness, but her intention was to destroy him by turning him over to his enemies.
Initially, Samson managed to resist her manipulative tactics. However, true to the devil’s nature, Delilah didn’t give up. She waged a relentless campaign against him until his spirit was broken. The Message Bible captures it well: She kept on day by day, nagging and tormenting him, till he was fed up.
The devil is persistent. He is after your destiny, engaging in a daily war to wear you down and lead you to give in. His goal is to entice you into breaking your covenant with God by yielding to the temptations he presents.
Delilah pressed Samson daily until his soul was vexed unto death. The enemy is out to kill us! He comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy, aiming to deceive us into breaking our covenant with God.
Matthew 26:41 instructs us: Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Prayer and spiritual vigilance—which come from studying God’s word and fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit—are essential for resisting temptation. They fortify us against the enemy’s attacks.
What we feed our souls has a direct impact on our ability to withstand temptations.
1 Timothy 4:1 states: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.
There is a satanic agenda aimed at getting God’s people to break their covenant with Him and depart from the faith. This agenda is propagated through strange doctrines and the spirit of seduction. Strange doctrines are false teachings that contradict God’s word. Delilah employed the latter against Samson: the spirit of seduction. In some cases, the enemy may use both tactics. Therefore, it is vital to remain vigilant.
Beware! Don’t allow the devil to infiltrate your covenant with God—the covenant of prayer, fasting, studying the word, giving, evangelism, righteousness, holiness, and more. That covenant is your strength. Don’t lose it.
Shalom.
