FLAMING WORD – P5

JUDGES 13:6, 8

v.6 Then the woman came and told her husband…

v.8 Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, “O my Lord, let the man of God whom thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.”

In verse 2 of the same chapter, where we are first introduced to this family, the Bible tells us the name of the man as Manoah, but not the woman. The first thing we learn about her is that she was barren, which presupposes that her challenge had clouded her very existence.

I believe the angel of the Lord came to her because she was overwhelmed by the situation and needed a sure word from God.

Thank God for His word! The word of God is life—it brings hope.

When this woman heard the word of prophecy, she didn’t doubt it. She believed it and went to inform her husband. As the head of the home, it was important that the husband walked in conformity with what God was doing.

God, in His wisdom, sent the angel to the woman, but she couldn’t have a baby by herself. She needed both the spiritual and physical input of the man.

Wife, what is God telling you? Once He has placed the man as your head, you need him for the fulfilment of your purpose. It doesn’t matter the anointing or depth of revelation the woman might have—it is all to help the man become who God has ordained him to be. Many marital challenges, especially among Christians and ministers, have to do with headship.

Manoah’s wife was first told they would have a son. However, the bearer of the seed was Manoah. His role in all of this cannot be overemphasised.

Now, let’s look at Manoah’s attitude. Upon hearing the word of prophecy, he prayed! He wasn’t angry that the angel didn’t appear to him first! At the end of the day, the child would bear his name, bringing him glory!

Husband, your wife is your crown. A good husband is a praying man. You make intercession for your family, especially your wife, so that every prophecy concerning her comes to pass. A good husband does not compete with his wife.

Manoah prayed that the angel would come again and teach them how to raise their unborn child. A good husband and father seeks God’s guidance for the family. Every child has a destiny to fulfil, and it takes the wisdom of God to guide them. Children are to be trained in the way they should go (Prov. 22:6).

The training of a child is not the sole responsibility of the father or the mother. In Manoah’s prayer, he said, Teach us. Both parents are responsible for their children’s upbringing. They both need divine wisdom to do so effectively.

I pray for you today that you will walk in wisdom. If you are unmarried, I pray that God gives you a partner who will submit to His will. For the married, I pray that you will walk in divine wisdom and understanding, in total submission to God.

Shalom.
