FLAMING WORD – P6
JUDGES 14:5-6
“Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and behold, a young lion roared against him.”
Samson was beginning his divine assignment, his ministry. He had set out in line with his calling or purpose—the reason for his very existence. He had his parents with him, who not only raised him physically but spiritually as well.
On life’s journey, God gives us spiritual parents who play key roles in our lives. They help usher us into our destinies. By their counsel, we come into our divine inheritance.
Galatians 4:1-2: The heir, as long as he is a child, is under tutors and governors.
Spiritual parents are not only concerned with the spiritual life of their children but with their total wellbeing—physical wellness, emotional stability, marital health, financial welfare, and more. Just as Samson’s parents prayed that God would teach them how to raise him, so do I pray that every spiritual parent would know how to guide their spiritual children into their destinies.
May spiritual children be humble enough to accept spiritual guidance.
As Samson journeys with his parents, a lion roars against him. Note that the lion was not coming against the parents—its target was Samson. In verse 6, the lion is referred to as he, not it. It wasn’t just a lion—it was a spirit, the devil himself. The Bible says the devil goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).
The devil desires to devour destinies. He comes against people at the beginning of their destiny journey, intending to destroy it at the outset. The same devil visited Jesus at the beginning of His ministry, trying to destroy it, but God (His spiritual Parent) sent angels to strengthen Him. Similarly, Samson had his spiritual parents with him to strengthen him.
Satan is a destiny killer. Thank God for spiritual parents who give us guidance.
May the Good Lord help us humble ourselves to their tutelage, so we are not devoured by that which roars like a lion.
Shalom.
