FLAMING WORD – P17

1 SAMUEL 17:12

Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.

Now David…
In our previous lesson, we saw how King Saul and all of Israel cowered when Goliath defied them. Israel rejected God as their King and asked for a king, saying, “That we may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.”
However, when it is time for the king they desired to lead, like they themselves, he is quaking with fear. The situation seems very hopeless. Suddenly, a new “king” is identified.
Now David…

1 Samuel 16:1
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

Saul transgressed the Lord’s commandment when he became king, so God rejected him. God then asked Samuel to anoint one of the sons of Jesse as king in Saul’s stead. That was David.

The oil had been poured on him; he had received the kingly anointing. David was a king in waiting.

Whatever office we find ourselves in, whatever grace is upon our lives, if we fail to abide by the word of the Lord, there are others in waiting to take over. Before you know it, a David will be manifesting in his now!
May we be careful to do the will of God and not take the grace of God for granted. Rather, may we be the Davids that are being manifested in the now.
Now David…

Shalom
