FLAMING WORD – P13
JUDGES 16:19
“And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.”
Samson didn’t fall asleep of his own accord; Delilah caused him to sleep. Positioned on her knees, he was subjected to her control. The mighty man Samson became vulnerable to the whims of a woman, all because he succumbed to her cries and the relentless pressure she exerted.
The Delilah spirit is seductive and manipulative. Many great men and women have fallen victim to this spirit, having their visions cut short. As a spirit, it can manifest in both women and men.
The Delilah spirit is controlling, seeking its own way regardless of the destruction it leaves in its wake. It pretends to love but harbors a hidden agenda; it is devilish in nature.
As people of God on divine assignments, we must be cautious about the company we keep. Any relationship that encourages us to depart from God is not worth maintaining.
Sadly, some spouses have allowed themselves to be used by the Delilah spirit. They may not appear problematic initially, but an encounter with the lords of the Philistines can awaken this evil influence.
Any spouse who insists on having their way is operating under the Delilah spirit. While the husband is the head of the wife, he is also subject to Christ. Any effort to lead a woman away from God’s will indicates that the husband has been influenced by the Delilah spirit.
Moreover, this spirit embodies subjection and humiliation. Delilah didn’t make Samson sleep in her bosom but rather on her knees, rendering him helpless. For a man who could withstand the entire army of the Philistines, just one person was able to overpower him. In his weakened state, the Delilah spirit afflicted him until his strength was gone.
The joy of the Lord is our strength; any relationship that does not bring us joy will drain our strength. Such influences are devilish.
Proverbs 7:26-27 states: For she hath cast down many wounded; yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
This scripture speaks of the strange woman. Anyone operating under the Delilah spirit is a strange man or woman. Through this devilish spirit, they inflict wounds and cause destruction. Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy. Ultimately, Samson faced destruction at her hands. The scripture warns that many strong men have been slain by her; she targets the strong, the burden-bearers, and the visionaries.
Are you married? Be vigilant against the Delilah spirit so you don’t harm your spouse.
Are you single? Pray that you don’t become a vessel for this spirit to inhabit.
Shalom.
