FLAMING WORD – P18
1 SAMUEL 17:14-15
“14 And David was the youngest, and the three eldest followed Saul.
15 But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.”
The three older brothers of David were in Saul’s army, valiant young men, the pride of their dad; yet they all fled at the appearing of Goliath.
God always looks for a man to show Himself strong on his behalf. When those equipped by God for kingdom business fail to lay down their lives for God and His kingdom, God ushers another unto the scene.
David’s brothers followed Saul. A servant is not greater than the master, so just as their master, they trembled in fear. David, on the other hand, “followed” God. He had made the Lord his Shepherd (Psalm 23:1). His revelation of God as a Shepherd made him a good shepherd over his flock.
It takes a good shepherd to lay down his life for his sheep. David was a shepherd, and a very good one who would jeopardize his life for his sheep.
Matthew 24:45-46
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord, when he cometh, shall find so doing.
God requires faithfulness in all that we are entrusted with.
Moreover, it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.
1 Corinthians 4:2 KJV
May we be the people who will stand in the gap for God to show Himself strong on their behalf. All God requires is a heart that will follow Him.
Shalom.
